Best maintenance practices for hot blast stoves include inspection.

A regular inspection by endoscopy at high temperature is the perfect way to evaluate the (evolution of the) conditions of the refractory lining of the stoves.

The captured pictures and movies allow the stoves manager to schedule repair & maintenance actions and so to avoid emergency situations.

Ceramic Welding

The use of ceramic welding to repair the refractory lining of hot blast stoves has started at the end of September 1997, when FIBS developed a special grade of ceramic welding powder suitable for hot blast stoves, even at very low temperatures.

Ceramic welding is usually used as a preventive maintenance method : cracks and disorders (in the refractory lining of the hot air outlet, combustion wall, burner area- are fixed by ceramic welding in order to stop the extension of the damages. This kind of repair shows a lifetime above 7 years (depending on the operation of the stoves).

Some larger damages can also be consolidated by ceramic welding.
